This filament spool holder will sit on top of your printer so that it has a smaller footprint. This includes optionally relocating the filament runout sensor to the top of the printer for a shorter filament path.
You may need a 3-wire JST-XH extension (in BOM) if your filament runout wire isn't long enough. I made my own since I had the ends on-hand. They're easy to come by if you don't have the ends.
The parts needed are pretty standard so if you get extras, they're likely to end up being relevant to other 3d printing projects you do in the future.
The CAD is available on OnShape if you want to adjust the design to suit your needs.
Assembly
- Push the alignment retainers through the bases
- If using the heatset version of the alignment retainer, install that heatset
- Push the runout sensor alignment retainer through a base, making sure that the side with the screw hole will face the front of your printer when installed
- Use the M3x10 bolts to screw the four sections of the Base together
- Drop four of the 608 bearings into the bearing slots then run the bearing pegs through them
- Set four of the 608 bearings onto the bearing pilars
- Install the spool alignment pegs into the spool plate such that they will fit inside the hole of your spool
- Set the bases onto the top of your printer
- Bolt the runout sensor onto the alignment retainer
- Connect the extension between the runout sensor wire and the runout sensor
- Set the spool plate on top of the bearings
