This is a model for a trumpet straight mute.
I like the sound! It's just missing a bit of metallic brightness. I see this as a cheap mute for students or a platform for experiments. So it's affordable and tweakable.
There are 3 variants:
- Fully 3D printed with “cork strip” consisting of TPU.
- Body 3D printed with cork strip e.g. from IKEA cup coasters - cut out 9mm x 45mm (works quite well ~1.5€ for 14 strips).
- Body 3D printed with Cork Strip bought online (~10€ for 3 strips).
The difference between 2. and 3. is that for 3. the body is round while for 2. the Cork Strip sections are flat. If you buy cork stips for a trumpet mute they are already rounded.
Please use 100% infill for the top and bottom part. Fuzzy skin may be a nice touch to the bottom part.
If you print the TPU use only 2 outer layer and 5% cubic infill. Print in a standing position with the layer height set to 0.08mm. The idea is that the layer lines are in parallel to you bell. This is somewhat experimental and at least with good (=dry) TPU and a breath on the trumpet bell it holds reliably.
