A spool that has been designed with DIY filament manufacturing in mind.

This design features slots to pass bindings through, such as zip-ties, to bundle filament together when a core sleeve is installed. Easy disassembly allows you to remove the bundled filament for storage and so you can keep making filament without needing more spools.

Simply reverse the process on another spool when you're ready to use your filament.

If you don't have a core sleeve on your spool, you probably will not be able to get the filament off, or will be unable to keep it in a usable bundle, so tread carefully. Also be very gentle with the bundles when you get them off the spool core; if they aren't perfectly wound, it might bulge at the sides and be difficult to transfer between spools and cause flexing/deformation of spool endcaps.

---

BE MINDFUL OF THE MATERIAL YOU PRINT YOUR SPOOL OUT OF!

If you wind a hygroscopic material on your spool and you need to dry it later, the glass-transition temperature of the spool material must be higher than the filament material's drying temperature. Otherwise, you will need to vacuum-dry your material to avoid melting the spool.

Also, softer materials like PCTG may flex outwards as more material is added to the spool. This is mostly a problem when you want to transfer material between spools.

---

Model has been updated with embedded bridge supports and better geometry; generating support material is no longer needed for endcaps! (Tested on 0.2mm layers)

Core has been updated to use less plastic as well.
