This is a proof of concept for a Framework expansion card that lets you attach Nintendo Switch Joycons to the side of your Framework 12 Laptop. While currently, they're solid dummies that just hold the Joycons, I eventually want to come back and add charging circuitry to them. See my blog post here.
Note that these are designed for the Framework 12 which has a tablet mode so the controller are designed to face the opposite side of the keyboard. They will not work on the Framework 13 or Framework 16 laptops.
Also worth noting that yes, these modules will block the expansion card slots next to them. It is only a proof of concept for now.
Print Instructions
- No supports required
- All files are in correct printing orientations
- Recommended 0.2mm layer height to ensure the locking mechanism works.
- There are some built-in supports on each side of the 2 larger pieces. These were added to prevent the need for automatic supports. Just trim them off with a knife. They are highlighted in blue below.
Assembly
- There is a Left and Right module that each come in 2 pieces
- Each side joins together with a long dovetail
- Slide the smaller narrow pieces into the larger ones so that the locking notch goes on the outside
