This is an older design of mine that I decided to bring to Printables. When I made it, attractive looking chess boards did not really exist in my opinion. As such, I've attempted to create a chess board with an interesting design (tessellated hexagonal shapes).
The print on the photos was done in real aluminum, but this design is very doable with FDM. Recommended layer height is 0.25 mm since all Z-axis dimensions are a multiple of it. For a nice effect, I recommend treating all 'white' (or all 'black') fields in some way in order to enhance the contrast between the white and black fields. Think of sanding/sand blasting, polishing, painting/lacquering, maybe something else.
Chess pieces not included.
I've included a version in which the odd fields are lowered by 0.6 mm. This should make the contrast between fields a bit larger.
