This is a solution for using a Raspberry Pi HQ Camera module and a Raspberry Pi Zero 2 as a high-quality print camera add-on for your Original Prusa Enclosure. It attaches neatly to one of the enclosure ceiling side profiles, putting the camera into a corner to swivel down at the print bed.
Together with a 6mm focal length lense you get a high-quality full view of your print bed.
Provided parts:
- Raspberry Pi Zero 2 case (split into top, middle and bottom)
- Raspberry Pi HQ Camera case (attaches together with the camera to the top part of the Pi Zero 2 case)
- A printable UNC ¼"-20 tripod screw, in case you don't have one on hand
The Raspberry Pi HQ Camera case is a re-creation of PrinterIsComing's excellent simple HQ Camera case, eschewing the Raspberry Pi logo for a more minimalist take, and adjusting a few of the measurements.
Extra hardware needed:
- 8 M2.5 screws and nuts for the Pi cases
- My recommendation is to use nylon or polyamide screws you can cut to size behind their nuts, but you can also flip the screw head position to avoid the need for this
- 2 M3 screws and nuts to attach the assembly to the Original Prusa Enclosure
- A FPC cable with the right ends for the Pi HQ Camera and the Pi Zero 2; you can use the one bundled with the HQ Camera module, but using a shorter 8cm cable adds some further elegance
Recommended assembly order:
- Attach the FPC cable to the HQ Camera module
- Close the HQ Camera case around the module using M2.5 screws and nuts
- Attach the HQ Camera module to the Pi Zero case top part using the printable tripod screw or equivalent
- Attach the FPC cable to the Pi Zero and insert the microSD card
- Insert the Pi Zero into the Pi Zero case middle part
- Insert the M3 screws into the Pi Zero case bottom part, with the screw heads inside the case
- Close the Pi Zero case using M2.5 screws and nuts
- Remove one of the plastic rivets holding the Original Prusa Enclosure side panel
- Attach the assembly on the inside of the printer, with the two M3 bolts sticking outside
- Add the M3 nuts to secure the assembly
Recommended print settings:
- My example print is done in Prusament Galaxy Black on a MK4, with 0.16mm layer height on a 0.4mm nozzle, using gyroid infill
- You need to enable print bed supports
- Print the HQ Camera case with the large outward-facing sides at the bottom
- Print the Pi Zero case with the bottom sides at the bottom, except for the middle part, which should be printed upside-down
- Print the tripod screw with the screw head at the bottom
