I wanted to try out the fuzzy skin modifier - it worked + happy with the results. I used Orca YMMV - the steps vary by slicer. Info for common slicers are readily searchable. Got the idea from here:

Notes:
Alignment of the modifier shape is fiddly - use positioning to incrementally move the x / y axis. Orca settings: Process = Object (not global), noise type = classic, point dist = 0.5, skin thickness = 0.4
