Ever wanted a jet engine in your computer? Look no further than this unique design. Whether you want to display your love of aviation or just want to compensate for your computer's excessive noise, this capswap is a great addition to any PC.
Assembly instructions:
See Instructions.pdf for pictures
Insert the Fan_Assembly shaft into the Main_Cowling. Apply force only on the conical hub of the fan to avoid damaging the blades.
Use the guiding posts on the Main_Cowling to align the Nose_Cowling (Note - I had a lot of stringing on the posts. Use a deburring tool or Xacto knife to clean them up before attempting to install). If the guides snap off, no worries - just line it up by eye. And if the connection is too loose (posts snapped or otherwise), apply a few drops of glue to bond the parts together.
Next, stand the assembly upright and slide the Turbofan_Mount over and on to the Main_Cowling. On the underside of the model, press the Main_Cowling until it is just about flush with the Turbofan_Mount. If the fit is too loose, insert the Main_Cowling a few mm further into the Turbofan_Mount.
When installing onto the CPU waterblock, only press down on the corners of the Turbofan_Mount to avoid detaching the main cowling.
Bonus tip:
Use a silver or white colored felt tip pen pen to detail the blades and fan hub.
Print Tips (Default in the attached 3MFs)
- nose_cowling
15% infill, 0.07 layer height - main_cowling
15% infill, 0.15 or 0.2 layer height - Fan_Assembly
25% infill, 0.1 layer height. Organic support - 15% density
Make sure you have dry filament - stringing on this part can be problematic.
When removing the supports, I found it works best to work your way from the base up and then pull the supports in between the blades out the side. But be careful - the fan blades are very fragile once the support structure is removed. - Turbofan_Mount
20% infill. I printed mine facedown on the textured steel sheet, which gave it a tarmac-y texture to it.
Edit: changed guidance on layer height for Fan_Assembly after doing several test prints. Updated Fan_Assembly.3MF to include a more realistic blunted nose cone.
