I needed a stand with extra wire storage, could not find one. Had an idea and the first couple did not work or work well, but did not need to be in parts. So we ended this one on version 5.
If you hold the HomePod upside down. You can hold the stand with your thumb, wrap the wire while pushing the part closest to the Pod down while adding the wire. If you need more or less turn it upside down and add more to the storage or remove based on what you need.
