A very minimalistic token for a modified toniebox.

The design goal was to incorporate all of the parts needed for a working token i.e. a magnet and the rfid chip without exposing them to a child. Therefore, the parts have been printed into the token protecting them from tooths, falls, and other harmful events. So far, the tokens have survived pretty good. The only problematic thing is the place for a printout cover - I need to find a child friendly water-proof glue to protect those.

Important Note

YOU MUST SETUP PAUSES DURING THE PRINT TO INSERT THE MAGNET AND THE RFID TAG. IF YOU FAIL TO DO SO THE PRINT IS USESLESS.

Detailed Explanations

Required Additional Material

  • Cylindric Magnet 5mm diameter x 3mm thickness (I used amazon.de/dp/B0BMZX8FV3)
  • Compatible RFID Token. I sourced mine from RFIDFriend

Print Instructions

For printing you must insert two pauses for enabling you to insert the magnet as well as the RFID Token. Please pause on layer 18 and layer 29. You can achieve with PrusaSlicer by slicing the Model and then in the print preview looking at the layer you want to pause and right-click the bar to show the option to pause at the selected height. I attached a screenshot showing the menu. As the printer pauses you need to first dropin the magnet into the hole and continue the print. Afterwards you need to glue the RFID Token inplace and continue the print.

As soon as the print finishes feel free to add you own label to the top. It has a 30mm x 30mm recess which allows to glue in a cover without letting it stickout. The idea was to fill the recess with a clear coat at the end - however I never did this so far.

Please be aware, as I print with brass nozzles (which are not magnetic) I dont know if there are problems when printing with steel nozzles.

TL;DR

  • Configure Slicer to Pause at layer 18 and layer 29
  • At layer 18 insert magnet
  • At layer 29 insert RFID token
  • If you use a non-brass nozzle, be aware that I dont know if the print will be successfull.
