One of my best friends works as an Occupational Therapist in our local school system's special education unit. One day she was sharing about how she experienced a breakthrough when a nonverbal autistic child was given a set of wooden beads and a shoestring to play with. The child, who normally interacts very little with their environment, immediately started threading the beads on the string. Unfortunately my friend was unable to continue using the beads as they were small enough to present a potential choking hazard.
I created this set of Activity Beads that are sized such that they cannot fit into a child's mouth. Each bead has an 8mm hole that can be used for threading on a string or stacked on a dowel rod. They are useful for helping special needs kids develop motor skills.
My friend reports that the beads are a huge hit with the kids she works with. I'm sharing them here for anyone who would like to give them a try, whether with special needs kids or even with toddlers and small children who do not have special needs.
Please share your make and tell me about your experience!
The 3MF files are ready to print. Some have supports where needed. Others are positioned for optimal printing with no supports.
Enjoy!
