This is in the style of “Zoo Burrs”, which are traditional burr puzzles with something special inside, like an animal-shaped piece. These are typically done with 18 piece burrs, but I wanted to try one with a traditional 6-piece burr puzzle. I also wanted to do one where each of the pieces (besides the dog) is identical and provide ample room.
If you use your imagination, the piece that fits inside looks like a dog. I used a marker to give it more of a dog appearance. The 6 piece burr without the dog inside is pretty easy (and somewhat unstable). But when you add the dog, it ramps up the difficulty and makes the final assembly more stable.
Some stats for the assembly:
- Solutions: 3
- Assemblies: 4 (meaning 1 configuration looks like it should work but won't)
- 2 solutions are Level 2, and 1 solution is Level 4. The level of a puzzle is the number of moves needed to remove the first piece.
Print Instructions
There is 1 file with 7 pieces to print. No supports needed. 6 pieces are identical and the other piece is the dog that fits inside. Drawing a good doggo on the piece is encouraged but not necessary. It's a little on the small side, so you may want to scale it up to make it easier to manipulate. But the size as-is worked fine for me.
