I wanted a truing stand that would support the various wheel sets in my garage.  I have wheels with quick release skewers and wheels with through axles.  This stand supports both.

This model contains the parts for the two towers and what is required to secure the wheel.  The photos also show the finger gauge which I got from Saul92 on Cults3d.com.  Those files are not included here.

Assemble the tower parts as shown in the photos using your preferred adhesive.  I used a two part epoxy and everything was very secure.  The parts are intentionally a tight fit to improve stability.  A few taps with a rubber mallet may help.  There are holes for 5mm hardware in some of the parts, however, after assembling everything I was happy with the fit and chose not to use the bolts.

The cap, mount and handle all use M5 threaded inserts hot inserted in the parts post printing.  The models have 7.1 mm holes as specified for the inserts I used.  You will need qty 2 140 mm M5 threaded rods for the wheel supports.  After threading the rods through the cap, use some Loctite on each end of the rod to secure the handle and mount.

Screw the mounts in so that the wheel is centered between the towers with the hub end caps sitting in the mount.  The wheel should spin freely.  Use the finger gauge mentioned above or one of several others available on the web to measure if the wheel is out of true.

I used wood screws to mount everything on a piece of wood.  Spend a bit of time keeping everything square.

Potential improvements could be to use M6 or M8 hardware for mounting the wheel.  I had M5 handy and initially I had the rod going all the way through the wheel.  I have also considered adding a mount for a dial gauge to check the roundness of the wheel.  I also regret not adding a feature in the base for spoke wrenches and other small parts.

The purple material is Flashforge PETG-CF.  The grey material is Flashforge PETG.  The material choice probably isn't critical but since this lives in my hot garage I wouldn't use PLA.  I used 5 wall layers and 25% infill to make sure everything was strong.  The cap and union will require supports.

Ride Safe!
