The motor in my Motorized Light House wore out and I needed to replace it. The WeDo Medium Motor (Lego #45303-1) is retired and any reasonable equivalent was out of stock. So, in the words of my daughter when she was a toddler, “I do it my own self!”
This case has the equivalent dimensions of the 45303 motor and should be usable with bottom plate, top plate and front pins. This excludes the bottom front pin slot of the original.
The case requires supports to print the top upright and nicely, although it may work upside-down on the studs.
I print the spindle at 100% infill to make sure it can handle the mechanical stress. The spindle side that goes on the motor is intentionally snug to make sure it doesn't loosen during operation.
I use this little 6V motor from Amazon, which includes gearing down to 300RPM, which is roughly the same as the original motor. - uxcell 300RPM 6v motor
Printed in PLA and has held up so far.
UPDATE: New version (V20) has a modified opening in the rear for the wiring and screws in the rear to hold the case closed. I found in some instances the case could start separating in the rear due to the torque of the motor. Keeping the previous version (V13) here as well.
Note: Although the motor isn't officially labeled an N20, eyeballing it I'm pretty sure it is? If somebody can confirm or disconfirm, that would be helpful.
