This is an abacus to teach arithmetic concepts. More specifically, this is a 15 rod Chinese abacus. The upper deck has 2 beads per rod with each bead being worth 5. The lower deck has 5 beads per rod with each bead being worth 1.
You will need:
- glue (preferably super glue)
- patience
- 3D printer
- These instructions
To assemble:
- Print out all 3 files
- Once printed, you will end up with 15 rods, 110 beads (only 105 beads are needed, the rest I put are extras),and the frame of the abacus.
- The bottom is the lower deck (the bigger space)
- Slide one rod thru any of the holes all the way at the bottom ( not all the way)
- Slide onto that 1 rod 5 beads and then slide the rod thru the 2nd hole( going up).
- Now slide 2 beads onto that rod
- Slide the rod thru the 3rd hole (going up)
- Glue to ends of the rod to the outer frame of the abacus, making sure none of the beads get covered in glue
- Repeat STEPS 4-8 on all the other holes
