Design Description:
This storage box is designed to hold the trailer wire and connector which is stored at the rear of a vehicle. I designed it to attach to the bottom of the bumper on my 3rd gen 4runner. It's designed to use 2x M5 bolts (16mm minimum)/washers/lock washers/nuts to connect to the vehicle. It also requires 2x M3 bolts (30mm minimum)/washers/lock-washers/nuts for the door hinges. The door stays closed with 3 rectangular magnets - size: 6mm x 3mm x 2mm (https://www.amazon.com/dp/B09YCWJLXR). It has an opening at the rear to feed the connector through and drain holes for any water that makes it's way into the unit.
Print instructions:
Filament: PLA or PTEG
Nozzle: 0.4mm; Layer Thickness: 0.2mm; Wall Count: 3
Supports: Yes (Tree/Organic); Remove Small Overhangs: Yes (will remove unnecessary supports).
.3mf file includes above settings.
PAUSE at layers 15 & 245 to add magnets. (Be sure to check for correct polarity)
Assembly:
Use M3 bolts to connect the door to the body. Do not overtighten bolts! Tighten until lock washer has compressed. Over tightening will cause connecting arms to bend.
The holes to fasten the unit to the vehicle are, from center, 50mm apart (2 inches). Measure, mark, drill with 7/32" or 15/64" drill bit, and attach it to the vehicle with M5 bolts.
Tip:
If the holes don't align enough to get both M5 bolts through their holes, use a slightly larger drill bit (¼" or larger) on one side, which will create more space between mounting points. Don't go too large as the washer may fall through.
