Light globe for a ceiling fixture with a 3.25” OD neck. I like that it hangs from my ceiling “upside down Rogue One fashion” instead of with the laser aperture disc “above” the equator as it’s depicted in ANH and Jedi. I did notice that the equator detail in the mesh isn’t right at the midline of the globe, but it still looks pretty darn good to my eye.
And then I made a video that I probably can’t post here cutting the light turning on into the “Commence primary ignition…” sequence from Star Wars: A New Hope. : )
I printed with a 0.6mm nozzle with auto-generated organic supports in Overture white PETG On my CoreOne. It took some work to break out the internal support tower, because the top of the “tree” was larger diameter than the neck. You could probably finesse the supports a little better, but it wasn’t too bad to chop it out of there with a pair of diagonal cutters.
I had some grotty old light gray PETG, which looked OK, but I think I like the white better. Somebody better at lithophanes than me could probably do a “photo-negative” version of so the “trenches” are actually darker than the surface, but this looks pretty OK to me.
