Why
My H4 Boost strap cracked. In a similar way to this person's strap. I figured I could design something to make it usable again, so here’s my take on a conversion kit.
Does it work
I’ve been using it for about a month now, and I’m pretty happy with it. It feels secure, balanced and prints well. In my opinion, it’s about as comfortable as any other Elite-style strap - which is to say, not at all, since I much prefer Halo-style straps - but it’s still miles better than the standard strap included with the Quest 3.
How
Get your KIWI Design H4 Boost strap. You'll need to disassemble the front part to retrieve a few components:
- two Headset Connectors, used to attach the H4 to the sides of the headset,
- the adjustable Fore Clip that attaches in the middle of the headset,
- two rubber gaskets that are hidden inside the joint connecting the front and back parts.
There are two screws hidden behind round black stickers on the inside of the joint (green in the illustration below). You'll need to remove them to get to the gaskets and the Fore Clip. These were fairly simple to unscrew, however…
There are another two screws hidden behind identical round black stickers near the Headset Connectors, connecting the distance adjustment “pucks” to the strap (red in the illustration below). I was unable to unscrew them, but since my strap was already broken I wasn’t too worried about it - I just broke it off using a screwdriver, a prying tool, and brute force. If you manage to get through this part without destroying the pucks, your mod should be reversible.

Once you have all your parts, attach the Fore Clip to the top strap using two of the printed parts.

Assemble a new joint using the retrieved Headset Connector, gasket, and the remaining printed parts. Repeat for other side.

Printing
I've printed it with Prusament PETG Pistachio Green, 0.2mm STRUCTURAL, MK4IS 0.4 hardened nozzle, 100% infill, textured sheet. Printing orientation is important, so check the .3mf project file for details
