This is a drop-in replacement for the original X-axis plate.
It aims to fix the biggest issue I had with the original one: lack of rigidity in the vertical plane. I was able to rock it back and forth quite a bit, and that was a problem when trying to cut aluminium because it deflected the cutting bit too much, causing rattling. This mod addresses that by using the maximum number of wheels possible.
What you'll need:
- 4 extra wheels (or 3 if you have the fifth one already installed)
- 4 8mm aluminium spacers
- 2 sets of 2.35mm and 9mm spacers (which you will have to print)
- 4 pieces of m5 threaded rod cut to 70mm
- new x axis plate (which you will also have to print)
- 4 washers
- 8 m5 nuts
- super glue
Printing Settings:
- I used the Voron recommanded settings (5 top/bottom, 4 walls, 40% infill gyroid)
- I printed them in PLA, but ABS is probably better because PLA has a tendancy to creep over time under load.
Assembly notes:
- Super-glue an M5 nut flush with the end of each threaded rod. Allow to cure completely.
- Press-fit each threaded rod into the holes on the X-axis plate.
- Install the X-axis plate back onto the toolhead assembly.
- On each rod, stack the components in this order: 2.35 mm spacer → wheel → 9 mm spacer → wheel → 8 mm aluminium spacer
- After all 4 rods are complete, reinstall the motor plate, place a washer on each rod end, and tighten them with nuts
- The X-axis assembly is now ready to be reinstalled on the machine.
