Never guess again!
This simple dishwasher dial lets you flip between CLEAN and DIRTY in bold text, which can be printed in two different colors by changing filament mid-print. Fast to print, easy to read, and attaches with tape or a magnet. Perfect for busy kitchens—print it today and make life a little easier!
The model has indentations for 8×2 mm magnets for dial registration so it will keep its position, but I have not found it necessary to use magnets in my own prints, as there is enough friction between the Base and the Dial to hold its chosen position. There is also a limiter so the dial can only be set to either the “CLEAN” or “DIRTY” position.
Dishwasher Dial - Quick Print Guide
Function: Flip between CLEAN / DIRTY
Material: PLA | Infill: 15% | Layer Height: 0.20 mm
Colors: Base can be two-tone using filament changes at layers 24 & 27
Assembly: Tape, Command Strip, or magnets (optional)
Notes: Dial has limiter; screw is a tight fit; textured surface recommended for aesthetics
For more detailed information and instructions please see the the sections below.
Printing
Base: Print the Dishwasher Dial Base with the letters facing up. Assuming a layer height of 0.20 mm (recommended), the text “CLEAN” and “DIRTY” are separated by 3 layers. You can print the first layers (1–24) in a high-contrast color like white, then switch to a second contrasting color like red for “DIRTY” (layers 25–27), followed by a third finishing color such as black. For best aesthetics, use the same color as the last layer of the Base to print the Dial—my example uses black.
Screw: Can be printed in any color since it does not show.
Dial Surface: A textured build plate gives a very attractive finish to the Dial. If you don’t have a textured build plate, consider using a “Bottom Fill Pattern” such as a Hilbert Curve or another decorative option.
Print Settings:
Filament – PLA
Infill – 15%
Layer Height – 0.20 mm
Supports – Optional (use under the Base screw socket if needed)
Perimeters – 2 or 3
Additional Parts – None
Bed Adhesion – Glue stick recommended for reliability
Rafts – None
Scaling – Possible, but untested (let me know how it goes if you try!)
Filament Changes – Yes (at layer 24 and again at layer 27 with 0.20 mm layer height)
Post-Printing Notes
The screw is a very close fit. You may need to scale it down to 99% for smoother assembly, but my tests have worked fine at 100%.
Attaching to Dishwasher
I recommend using Command Strips or similar double sided adhesive strips (double sided tape might not be sufficient) to attach the model to your dishwasher—adhesive strips have better lateral holding strength than magnets. If you do use magnets, sand the inner hole of the Base to reduce friction so less force is required to rotate the Dial.
Happy Printing!
