This is an improved version of Customizable Hose Adapter.   This version is was reshaped to reduce turbulence (making it quieter and more efficient).   I also added the ability to add labels to keep track of what each end is meant to be attached to.

This is a customizer using OpenSCAD.  Simply measure the diameter of each item you want to connect to, and follow the directions below

Directions

  1. download OpenSCAD (it's free, and simple to install. I recommend to download the latest development version as opposed to the latest release)

  2. Open the PipeAdapter3.scad file

  3. Make sure that under the View menu, that Customizer is selected. A customizer panel will appear to the right

  4. Tweak the settings in the customizer panel

  5. Press F5 to preview, F6 to render, and F7 to export an STL file

If you want to output a colored label for a multicolor printer, in the customizer, under Advanced / output, select text_only.  Combine the resultant stl with the main body in your slicer.   You can also do colorless labels if you want to print with a single color.

Additional Notes:

All Measurements are in mm.

OpenSCAD will calculate the height and shape required to minimize noise.   It targets a maximum 15 degree angle, so if you have vastly different sized pipes, it will be tall (but it will be quiet).   You can override the height using the mid_height_override option.

Tapered ends are used for removable items - such as attachments to a vacuum hose.  This allows them to be inserted more easily, and still give a tight fit.   Use a taper of around 1mm for good results.  (note that many shopvac hoses already have tapered ends, so you can usually get away without a taper as well).    For plumbing, or other places where you are gluing things together, make sure taper is set to 0.   Tapers are set under the advanced settings, and default to 0.

The tolerance defaults to 0.1mm.  Increase this to give a looser fit (this applies to both ends).

The end1_lip and end2_lip refer to the expected wall thickness of whatever will be plugged into that end.   Thus, if your shopvac hose has an outer diameter of 50mm, and inner diameter of 47mm, then lip should be set to 1.5mm ( 50/2 - 47/2 ).   This only applies to female connectors.

Labels on male ends may create small leaks due to filament misalignment.   If you use them, you should seal then sand after printing.
