This is a rope clip designed to attach a rope protector for top rope solo or rope access setups.
The design is inspired by the excellent “Rip Strip” Rope Protector from Avant Climbing.

I originally made this as an excuse to do some TPU test prints with a slightly more complex geometry than a simple plug or cap. Since shipping from the U.S. to Europe can get a bit pricey, this seemed like the perfect opportunity to experiment and create a functional alternative.
That said — definitely check out and support Brent at Avant Climbing! He makes some incredibly well-designed gear for top rope and lead rope solo systems.

Printing & Performance

The model prints well in TPU, and the supports can easily be removed by clipping or cutting them off with side cutters. The longer internal overhangs could use a bit of optimization for cleaner aesthetics and possibly improved durability, but overall it performs great.

I’ve tested it on the crag for top rope solo, and it holds securely in place while still being removable with one hand. The size is intended for use on 9.5 or 9.8 mm ropes, in the photo the clip is attached to 11 mm rope and still holds well in place.

A rope protector (sleeve or a pad) can be attached with a webbing or a strap via the square slot (15 x 4 mm) on the end of the clip.
