This is quick-release adapter for the Logitech G29/G920 racing wheels.
In addition to the 3 printed parts, you will need:
- 4 M3x16 screws and nuts
(I used button head screws, but the clearances also allow socket-head). - 1 Male and 1 Female DB9 connector
(I used https://www.amazon.com/dp/B08JLFJJNT?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1) - 1 Male and 1 Female JST 2.0 PH connector
(I used https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0DMW7FPCH?ref=ppx_yo2ov_dt_b_fed_asin_title&th=1)
I repinned them so the wire colours matched the factory harnesses.) - 3 M4x35 screws and nuts
(again, I used button head, but socket head with washers under the head also works.
1) Print the 3 parts (N nnut, Shaft Adapter, and Wheel Adapter).
- The Adapters will require supports. The nut does not.
- Orient so that the shaft adapter mating surface is the top of the print, and the wheel adapter mating surface is on the print bed.
2) While the parts are printing, remove the wheel from the base of the G29/G920 (plenty of videos on YouTube showing how to do this)
3) Solder the JST connector harnesses to the DB9 connectors.
- The female DB9 needs a male JST connector to attach to the harness from the base. This harness only needs to be about 4 inches long, otherwise you will need to open the base and pull some of the factory harness out of the shaft to make room for the additional wiring.
- The male DB9 needs a female JST connector to attach to the PCB in the wheel.
4) Install the male DB9 with harness into the wheel adapter using (2) M3x16 screws and nuts.
5) Install the female DB9 with harness into the shaft adapter using (2) M3x16 screws and nuts.
6) Connect the wheel adapter harness to the wheel PCB JST connector.
7) Install the wheel adapter onto the back of the wheel assembly using (3) M4x35 screws and nuts.
8) Connect the shaft adapter harness to the factory wire harness in the shaft. I secured the two connectors together using some heat shrink, but a few wraps of electrical tape should also work.
9) Slide the nut onto the shaft and then install shaft adapter onto the wheel base shaft using the original M4 screws.
10) The wheel can now be reinstalled on the base by lining up the quick release (they will only go together one way due to the DB9 connector), and lock in place by turning the Quick Release Nut. It can turn up to 60 degrees, but only needs to turn about 20deg minimum to ensure a secure connection.
I printed this out of PETG on a Mk3, 15% rectilinear infill, 0.4mm nozzle with 0.20mm layer height, 4 perimeter walls, and tree supports enabled.
