Threadless Saw Guide for Steerer Forks
This 3D-printable tool is designed to assist in shortening bicycle steerer tubes—whether steel, aluminum, or carbon—inspired by professional cutting guides like the Park Tool SG-6. It provides an affordable, precise solution for clean, straight cuts.
Overview
The Threadless Saw Guide securely holds the steerer tube while guiding your saw blade to ensure a straight and accurate cut. It is ideal for DIY bicycle maintenance offering a reliable alternative to commercial tools.
Assembly & Use
The tool uses two M5x15 or M5x20 mm bolts to clamp the steerer tube in place.
Be cautious when tightening the bolts, especially with carbon steerer tubes, as excessive pressure may leave marks or cause damage.
To minimize risk, insert a protective lining (such as a thin rubber or plastic strip) between the tool and the steerer tube.
Operation Options
You can use the saw guide in two ways:
Handheld Operation – Attach adhesive rubber feet to the base for a stable, non-slip grip.
Vise Mounting – Secure the guide directly in a vise for maximum stability during cutting.
Alignment Feature
A center cutout hole at the bottom of the guide allows precise alignment with your cut markings. Simply line up your mark through the hole before beginning the cut.
Durability & Printing Notes
Print model on its side so that layer lines follow the length of the guide for optimal stability.
Due to the nature of 3D-printed materials, the tool will experience wear over time. However, it can be printed quickly and inexpensively, making it a practical solution for several accurate cuts before replacement.
Disclaimer
Use this tool at your own risk. Improper use or over-tightening may result in damage, particularly to carbon components. Always follow best safety practices when cutting bicycle parts.
