There are many Stanley rabbet planes available on the used market for reasonable prices. Often these are missing the depth stop. This replacement is not an exact replica but rather slightly changed to strengthen it for 3D printing. I have tested this with the Stanley 78 and 190. It should work with other similar models such as the 180 series and other models of the 190 series. I would recommend printing this item in PETG or stronger filament.
About the Screw
Stanley often used odd or non-standard sized screws with their planes. The depth stop screw is threaded 10-28 which is an uncommon size. If the depth stop is missing from your rabbet plane often times the screw is as well. I have included a printable thumbscrew and washer for it. Printable screws will not last long so I have purposely made the screw extra long so it can easily be extracted when it breaks. My order of preference would be:
- The original thumbscrew
- A modern replacement such those sold by Woodyah
- 10-28 bibb screw and washer from the plumbing dept of a hardware store
- The 3d printed replacement that is part of this profile
