I have been using a lot of eSun's refillable PETG spools and filament these: https://esun3dstore.com/products/esun-3d-filament-reusable-spool-pc-transparent-3d-printing-removable-filament-spool-for-1kg-pla-petg-spooless-refilament. Unless I want a specific colour, black & grey have been my prototyping and general filaments.
The refillable spools are great, however the clip part wears down or they break off, so I tried a few different versions and settled on this one that uses M3 bolts and nuts. The nuts slot in and stay put whilst you assemble the spool.
Print it out of something that won't go soft in your filament dryer.
** update, I redid the file to optimise for printing, including tear away supports in the files. Also added one for square nuts which works so much better than regular hex nuts.
