All-Sky camera enclosure.
This is my first attempt at an All-Sky build. It's offered to you without any guarantees it's suitable.
What I've put up on an 18ft pole in the garden is what was printed from these exports. It's been a fun project and will no doubt iterate it over time.
Notes:
- The screw-lid is intended to clamp down the dome and make it pretty much waterproof. Mine has been outside in the rain for a week now with absolutely no ill-effects. I did leave it in the power-shower for 30m to test it before putting the Pi in it!
- It needs three silicone rubber gaskets. Two upper (either side of the dome lip) and a further one between the Pi mount and the top of the body tube. You can use the dome and tube to mark out/cut out a silicone rubber sheet (I used 2mm). Works really well I have found - but please test it thoroughly before putting your Pi in there!
- It's designed for a Raspberry Pi 5 with a PoE hat that also provides 12v for the dew heater
- The Pi sits in the tray and is held there with a cable-tie. The Ethernet/USB etc. are facing down.
- The dew heater works 24/7 from the power supply in my implementation. I have seen that others have driven a relay from the Pi and Allsky has the functionality built in to switch in on/off.
- In the base there are two holes, one for a waterproof breather, the other for a waterproof ethernet through-connector
- In the base there are two holes designed to take ¼" 20x12.7x8mm threaded brass heat inserts - these are so you can attach it to a tripod or to use the mast adapter
- I did put the ‘All Sky’ on the side using the slicer, it's not baked into the design
- I'm not sure whether the Pi will overheat during the summer, just watch out for it throttling performance.
Printing:
- I used 0.12mm Fine setting with defaults everywhere else (Bambu X1C)
- I printed everything in PETG
- For the adapter, body and lid I decided I wanted to have it pretty solid so used 75% infill and rectilinear patterns throughout (this paid off when my tripod fell over!) It also might help make the tripod threads secure.
- I printed the pi-holder with the top down, preferably on a smooth plate (just so the surface is good with the gasket)
- The lid needs to be top-down so no supports
- The body goes on its base
- The camera stand goes on its legs with normal support. It fits tightly in the pi-holer.
- The camera shield just helps with reflections from the rubber band and the dew heater and I printed it in PLU and used super-glue to make it into a cone
Assembly:
- Check out the pictures - it's pretty straightforward
- Press-fit the camera table on the Pi holder
- Put the Pi in the holder and secure
- Feed the camera ribbon through the slot
- Attach the cam to the ribbon and mount on the table, using a rubber band to secure it
- Put on the lower gasket (between pi-holder lip and rim of the body tube)
- Connect the ethernet (!)
- Put the pi-holder into the body tube, seating the gasket properly
- Put the dome on, one gasket between the dome lip and the top surface of the pi-holder, the other on top of the dome lip
- Put the lid over and carefully but firmly screw down, holding the done in place so that the pi-holder doesn't twist
- I say again - make sure it's properly waterproof before before putting it outside or putting your Pi in it! Test test test!

Software:
- I use Indi-Allsky, but that doesn't mean you need to. There are loads of videos and instructions on the web site https://github.com/aaronwmorris/indi-allsky
- The software and camera setup were painful and took time. Get it all working outside the enclosure on your desk before printing and building it.
Good luck! :-)
