This case helps me easily pack my affordable (for the specs) macro lens in my backpack for long hikes. It protects the lens from scratches, small impacts, and dirt.
Printing Instructions:-
- Use flexible material, such as 95A TPU, which works well.
- Print with one or two perimeters, you want this to be squishy.
- Keep the infill density between 10% and 15% to balance squishiness and durability.
- Choose a strong infill pattern that holds up in all directions, like grid, cubic, honeycomb, TPMS-FK, or gyroid.
Miscellaneous Notes:
- For an expensive lens, a sturdier case would be a better choice.
- The friction-fit design uses (abuses?) the flexible material to create precise tolerances.
- If you print the case in clear or translucent filament, it can also function as a flashlight or flash diffuser.
- I used 12.5% TPMS-FK infill to make a soft case that compresses and absorbs impacts from all sides. It looks nice in transparent filament too.
