A billiards trophy | pool trophy
This model is the one to make any of your billiards competitions look much nicer. With the custom design, it will look nice with and without the top ball, as well as with and without the text labels on the stand.
Features
- The model is optimised for printing without the need for the MMU/AMS systems. The colour change is required only when switching layers (which can be done manually).
- The model ball is slightly larger than the actual billiards balls, but the scale is the one to look nice and be printed reasonably fast (~ 5 hours/trophy).
- The post is safely secured to the stand with an M16x2 thread.
- The ball is semi-fixed (if needed) with a magnet at the top of the post and a set of magnets in the ball itself.
A short video presentation
How to print:
What colours to use
- Yellow (ball 1)
- Blue (ball 2)
- Red (ball 3)
- Purple/violet (ball 4)
- Orange (ball 5)
- Green (ball 6)
- Burgundy/brown (ball 7)
- Black (ball 8)
Can I print stripes (9-15)?
Not really easily at the moment with the current models. If you are interested in compatible no-AMS | no-MMU models, please let me know - we can think of something.
Magnets to use
The list of magnets you need for 1 trophy (if using precut models):
- 5x
8 x 2.8 mm. - 8x
5 x 2.7 mm.
Print parameters
- PLA / PETG / anything.
- 0.2 mm layer or smaller, but keep track of the pause/magnets/colour change positions you will need to use.
- Random seam position is recommended for the ball. I personally prefer all the parts printed with random.
- No supports required.
- Archimedean chords for the top of the post, ball, and numbers. Hilbert curve for the top of the stand.
- 10-15% infill everywhere. Gyroid would work well.
- You can go as low as 5% for most of the stand. Use 50-75% for the cylinder with the thread + 5 mm below it - this will ensure you cannot tear apart the threaded part.
Print method
- Choose the type of model you would like to print - with the magnets positions precut (
ball-half-magnetsandpost-magnets) or without them (ball-halfandpost). - If you have chosen the model with no magnets pre-cut, you need to consider how you would fix the two ball halves together. E.g. cut holes for the different magnets you have.
- Print one post, one stand, 2 halves of the ball and 2 of the chosen number.
- When printing, pause before the magnets' precut positions are covered, put the magnets in and continue.
- If your printer does not support automatic colour/material change, do it manually.
Can the ball be printed single piece?
Yes, it can. But this would require you to use supports. Mirror the ball half and merge the two into a single object. Use your own print settings.
Keep in mind, more than probably, you will not be able to reach the same quality for two sides of the ball printed as a single piece.
Layer pause positions for precut models
This list marks the layers AT THE BEGINNING OF WHICH (meaning before the layer started) you need to pause the print.
This list is valid for a 0.2 mm layer height (including a 0.2 mm bottom layer). Adjust if needed.
Ball halves (if with the precut magnets)
- layer 21 - put 4x
5 x 2.7 mmmagnets in each half. Make sure the magnets in one half have the opposite orientation from those in the second half. - layer 100 - put 2x
8 x 2.8 mmmagnets in each half.
Post
- layer 318 - put 1x
8 x 2.8 mmmagnet in.
Layer pause for colour change (manual colour change)
Valid for 0.2 mm layers (including 0.2 mm bottom).
Numbers
- layer 16 - change from the
blacktowhite.
Labels
- layer 6 - change from the background (
white) to the text colour (black). - layer 11 - change from the text colour (
black) to accent colour.
Assembly
- Screw the post to the stand
- Push the number plates into the ball halves
- Put together the two halves of a ball by aligning the magnets inside
- Put the ball on top of the stand
Custom labels
The files contain a blank label (file label-blank), which you can use with your custom text or structure.
It is recommended to use 1 mm extruding text (like the provided labels).
