I do sail and 3D printing allows me to manufacture the never ending flow of spare parts an ageing boat requires and some gadgets to improve (or so I say) life on board. This thing comes to the second category.
On a boat, room is scarce and tubes are many : taps, stanchions, frames and others. I have drawn this part to attach different shapes of baskets - depending on the target use - to different diameters of tubing. I have today a sponge holder on the kitchen tap, a soap holder on the shower support, a mobile VHF holder next to the steering wheel and - most important - glass holders on the bimini frame. Others are still in my mind and the story has yet to reach its end. You have some opportunities at home as well, but sadly architects tend to hide tubing behind walls.
The holding function is provided by the assembly of four parts. Two of them, assembled using two 3x20 mm stainless steel screws and nuts, are so called “binder” and “slider” squeezing the tube. Recommended material is PETG. A pair of grip pads in flexible material (TPU), one inserted respectively in each of the binder and the slider, provides the grip avoiding the holder to slide on the tube. The slider is provided with a nut holding cavity and the screw comes in on the binder side where there is the dovetail insert.
The basket itself is a single part, dedicated for a function, sliding in the dovetail insert of the holder and maintained by friction and gravity with no screw. The material I've experienced here is Fillamentum CPE HG100 with a good mix of strength and flexibility. Other materials are to be tested with possible impact on the clearances.
There are holder (binder, slider & grip pad) models for 3 diameters of tube (23, 25 and 28 mm) and a few baskets I had use of. Regarding the print files and as far as printers are concerned, I'm still using my old MK3S for TPU, the rest of it is a mix of MK4S and Core 1, as one night my MK4S went transformed into a Core 1 thanks to the Prusa kit faery. You probably will have to re-slice the models.
Provided as well : Freecad 1.0 design file…
Good luck and to all of whom are sailing, Godspeed !
