The Marabbecca (Sicily, Italy): In some Sicilian nativity scenes, particularly in Palermo, a figure called the Marabbecca is sometimes included. It is a mythical monster that was said to live in wells or cisterns and could drown people. Its inclusion is meant as a reminder of fear and danger, making the miracle of Christ's birth more significant.
