Activity overview:
We chose the shield as our design cause we believed that this is really cool and would be really fun to make. I made this fidget with a partner, here's the link to his home page: @SriramKethin_3775782
Few things to note:
- The object begins with an 18x18cm box
- Feel free to have a bigger box
- The sketch must show the use of offset, dimension and relations
- No need to fully define the sketch
- No error should appear at the end
Problem statement:
Using sketch offsets and drafted extrusions/cuts, you will create a telescoping fidget device.
You are REQUIRED to have identical designs. We picked the shield because we thought it looked cool and interesting.
Instruction:
- Find a picture of a shield and trace it out onto the front plane

- Offset entities on the original outline of the shape

- Extrude and cuts inside the object

- Repeat steps until it is fully cut

- Mirror everything across the front plane

Design Changes:
Overall, I had 4 design changes over my design:
First, we figured that the outermost layer wasn’t thick enough to hold the whole thing. It would easily band when you squeeze it. To fix that, we thickened the outer layer so that it would not band anymore.
Original outer layer:

Second, I deleted the inner most layer because when it is being printed, it does not have enough support to stand
Original center:

Third, when we print our shield, we found that the layer between colors is very easy to fall apart. We figured that it was caused by the color we used, so we changed our color so that it will not fall apart so easily

Finally, we got an idea from another group. They told us to mirror the front page instead of the back cover of the first half of the fidget. It provides a more stable base, and it is more flexible
