Stand for Pimax controllers with optional magnetic charging!

You will need magnetic USB-C cables. I designed around N.Netdot Gen10 cables available on Bezos's Big Box Store. If you print the stand with 100% infill it is heavy enough to not lift off when picking up one controller, but it will scoot around. You can add some blue sticky tack or something to prevent that (add some channels to the underside to hide the tack).

When installing the cables (apologies I did not take pictures when I did this)

  1. Clean up your print if needed (wash glue stick off, remove stringing, etc.)
  2. Install the USB-C ends onto the controllers
  3. Test your cables to ensure they work
  4. Feed both cables through the stand from the bottom cable channel
  5. Ensure everything fits as you think it should
    1. Hold the cables with one hand while inserting and removing a controller with your other hand
  6. I used hot glue for the next steps
  7. Work on one controller at a time or the glue will set too fast
  8. Pull the cable so the connector is almost in the slot but its still just braided cable in the slot
    1. Check the attached picture that says “Before Glue”
  9. Squirt a little hot glue into the channel for the connector, try to get as deep down in there as possible
    1. Check the attached picture that says “Squirt Glue here”
  10. Push the connector down into the channel a little under flush, this will spread the glue all along the connector
    1. Check the attached picture that says “Push Down”
  11. Quickly put your controller into position and push the connector the rest of the way in with the controller, this ensures the connector is in the right position for magnetic charging
  12. Quickly use your free hand to hold the cable in position from the bottom while pulling the controller out
    1. You want to make sure the cable and connector do not move at all, but that you pull the controller and USB-C piece out before any glue can set just in case you used too much glue and you got it on the controller or USB-C piece
  13. Check the bottom of the controller, the USB-C plug, both magnets, and the controller dock/divot for any glue and clean them off
  14. Repeat for the other cable
  15. Then squirt some extra glue in the bottom of the cradle to really hold the cables in place
  16. Glue on the Pimax logo or leave it as an emboss, both look good in my opinion

I am including the Fusion 360 file so you can edit it as needed for different cables, remove the wriststrap channel, add feet, add sticky tack channels, whatever. Just be careful if you roll the history marker back too far you will need a lot of RAM as I remeshed the Pimax provided controller meshes to smooth out the cutouts but then converted to body and cut off the top to reduce the number of polygons. This can still chew up 12+ gigs of RAM depending on your operation.

Print Settings for the Pimax logo

  • Layer Height = 0.08mm
  • Infill = 100%
  • Skirt Loops = 3
    • I had to use skirt loops to get this to print right on my Bambu X1-C
    • without the skirt there would always be a string between the two pieces or some other weirdness
  • No brim
  • 50% print speed (silent) on my Bambu X1-C

Print Settings for the Cradle

  • Infill = 100%
    • This is for weight, it will be around 650g
    • If you do not need the weight, use whatever fits your needs
  • No brim

In the photos I have mine mounted to a multi-device charging station from the usual getting spot. This hides the cables and charger through the bottom nicely.
