Got a Raspberry Pi 2 or 3 that is sitting in a box being neglected? Put it back to work with this drawer!
Bill of Materials:
I have listed everything needed, but feel free to substitute with items you may already own.
- Raspberry Pi 2 or 3
- Suitable power source
- M2 x 6mm self-tapping screws for handle and OLED cover.
- M2.5 (or M2.6) self-tapping screws for the fan mount and drawer handles.
- Example self-tapping set: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D3KV7RVP/
- M2.5 bolts and nuts: M2.5 x 6mm for the Raspberry Pi (in lieu of fan mount).
- Example bolt and nut set: https://www.amazon.com/gp/product/B0FF4T7RD6/
- Micro USB Panel Mount: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0BJKM43FK
- This may or may not come with M3 screws
- [Optional] 30mm Fan and Heatsink kit: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07PHGTJKK
- [Optional] Power button: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B075LDGHHS
- [Optional] 128x32 OLED: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B0D2NRMHM9
- [Optional] Female to Female Dupont Jumper Wires for OLED and shutdown button: https://www.amazon.com/dp/B07GD312VG
Assembly Directions:
- Screw on handles with M2 x 6mm self-tapping screws
- Screw USB panel mount in place
- [Optional] Affix 128x32 OLED with pins facing towards outside of unit
- Use M2 x 6mm self-tapping screws to affix the OLED cover
- Note: Make sure cutout on OLED cover is facing the circuits on OLED.
- Use M2 x 6mm self-tapping screws to affix the OLED cover
- Attach the USB cable from panel mount to the Raspberry Pi's power
- Fit the Raspberry Pi in place (see picture for example) with the cable wrapped neatly
- Make sure to slide the power cable at the same time while placing the Raspberry Pi in the drawer, it will be a tight fit but I assure it'll fit.
- [Optional] Assemble fan on top of the fan mount
- Attach the Raspberry Pi to the drawer
- Either use the M2.5 x 6mm bolts and nuts OR use M2.5 (or M2.6) self-tapping screws into the fan mount.
- [Optional] Push the button cut-out from the inside out, clean the plastic remnants, and insert your button.
- Recommended to solder your Dupont wires to the button before installation
- Wire up the Raspberry Pi and enjoy!
Notes:
- It must be said again, the USB plug from the panel mount is a snug fit, do be careful when placing the Pi inside the drawer.
- I do not have any software to drive the power button or OLED at this time, but my plan is to create a simple script for this eventually.
