Yet Another Clock?

My daughter needed a simple practice clock for school on a short notice. I did not like any of the models I could find on Printables, so I created my own. Better than going to the shops! Advantages:

  • Quite thin plate => quick print
  • De-bossed numerals
  • Glue-less assembly

Just for interest, I also add a version that has Roman numerals.

Printing

Printing the clock is quite straightforward. There is a colour change in the print file for the clock face. If you start with the 3mf file, it's already there. Just start printing with the face colour, and finish wit the colour of the numerals.

I print everything in PLA with a 0.4-mm nozzle and 0.2-mm layers. The face plate is 2 mm thick, so if you opt, for some reason, for 0.15-mm layers, your slicer will have some rounding to do.

The model is designed for a PRUSA Mini-sized printer, wherefore the diameter of the dial is 178 mm. If you scale it, just don't forget to scale the hands by the same ratio. And, of course, scale x and y by the same factor!

Note that the locking pin for the hands is included in both the clock.stl, and the hands.stl. That is, you will be left with one spare. The reason is I damaged my first when removing it from the printer plate, so I just added another to the hands and found it convenient. Also you get a choice of colour that way.

Assembly

If you find the hands too tight of a fit on the central peg, give them a once-over with a deburring tool (or with scissors, for example). Then just drop the hands over the central peg, minute hand first, and secure them with the locking pin. You can add glue if you're sure you'll never have to replace them, but I wouldn't.
