I needed a way to semi-permanently mount YoLink Indoor Motion Sensors to the inside of the lid to my garbage bin. Something that would not come loose then the bin was dumped into the garbage truck. I say semi-permanently because the AA batteries need to be replaced several times a year.
BACKGROUND
It was important for me to know when our garbage was collected so I could bring the bins in before neighborhood dog walkers dropped their dog's waste into our empty bin. I store our bin inside our garage. I settled on YoLink Indoor Motion Sensors as they are well reviewed, small, and cost effective. I hoped they would be fine attached to underside of the trash & recycle bin lids stored in the garage. Using lithium AA batteries does help them survive during the cold months when temperatures easily get below 32°F / 0°C.
DESIGN
This mount has two holes designed for M4-.70 x ##mm screws. In my case I needed screws 35mm long to accommodate the thickness of the trash bin lid. The holes are inset to accommodate a M4 washer and the head of the screw. I use a washer and wing nuts on the outside of the trash bin for easier removal to change batteries.
I designed this in Fusion 360 for Mac. I have included STL, 3MF, F3D, and SKP file formats.
FILAMENT
I printed in PLA filament closely matching the bin's colors. While PLA isn't optimal for exterior use, I figure it is inside the bin & garage most of the time and I can always print again if it degrades. In my case blue for garbage bin and yellow for recycling bin.
