I was looking for a tachometer for my lathe and came across this video
I used the code and built a housing, disk and mount for the tachometer and arduino + display
You can use heatset inserts to make sure the ring doesnt move.
The sensor is a "cheap" light gate endsensor also used in 3d printers.
