This is a bauble with a difference, capable of being hung or mounted on a table.

It opens to reveal a riser platform to which can be attached that special gift or decorative element.

Additional to this is the light that activates when the lid is opened for that extra touch.

The riser elevates and the light activates when the lid is raised.

When the lid is closed the riser falls and the light deactivates.

No switches or soldering is required in the assembly.

However, care and patience are required to assemble.

Size: 95(H) x 82(W) mm

Assembly

Prepare the base fixing holes subject to the screws being used.

The screws should not be overtight during insertion.

Delamination along layer lines can occur due to stress if the screws are too tight.

Magnets

The bauble top and midring require the insertion of 2 cylindrical magnets.

Open up the holes with 3 mm drill bit.

Insert a magnet and press fit it into the hole in either the top or the midring.

Align the second magnet on the first magnet such that it is attracted.

Take the  top or midring and align the hole with the magnet and press the two together.

You may need to finish the insertion by pressing on a flat firm surface to press in the magnet.

Repeat this process with the top or midring.

1: Subplatform

Take the sub platform and the seesaw.

Slightly flex the subplatform along its centre with the pivot pillars left and right.

With the two strengthening ridges uppermost and the short section facing you, press the pivot beam into the pillars. Ensure the pivot beam sits snug into the pivot pillars.

Check that the pillars are vertical if there is a slight outward lean sand a little off the ends of the pivot beam until the pillars are vertical.

Cut a length of cleaning filament and create a point on the end to be inserted first by making the cut at <=45 degree angle, this will make insertion easier.

Insert it into the hole in the pivot pillar such that it passes through into the pivot beam.  Repeat the process on the other side.

Snip off the excess with wire cutters.

Take lever1 and insert the end into the split at the front of the long section in the seesaw, align the last hole in the lever with the hole in the seesaw.

Insert a length of cleaning filament all the way through to the other side and trim off the excess with cutters.

Take lever2 and insert the end into the split at the back of the short section in the sesaw, align the last hole in lever with the hole in the sesaw.

Insert a length of cleaning filament all the way through to the other side and trim off the excess with cutters.

If necessary waggle the mechanism to loosen the movement, a little resistance can be overcome but if the mechanism must be forced to move, it is too tight.

Excessively tight movement can be remedied with light sanding and/or a little silicone lubricant.

2: Platform

The upper platform suports the riser, LED and battery.

Take the riser and with the raised hinge section uppermost using a 1mm drill bit open up the small hole.

Into this hole fit a M1.2 screw.

Slightly flex the platform along its centre with the pivot pillars left and right.

With the short section facing you, press the riser beam into the pillars. Ensure the riser beam sits snug into the pivot pillars.

Check that the pillars are vertical if there is a slight outward lean sand a little off the ends of the pivot beam until the pillars are vertical.

Take lever1 and insert the end into the split in the riser, align the last hole in lever with the hole in the riser.

Insert a length of cleaning filament all the way through to the other side and trim off the excess with cutters.

3: LED & Battery holder

Bend both leads of the LED ~1mm from the base at right angles facing away from each other.

Orientate the retainer with the pillars facing down and the main circular section on the left.

Insert the short lead closest to the flat (cathode), on the LED body into the centre hole and into the trench under the retainer.

Bend the end of the wire up and over the retainer to secure the LED and trimming off the excess the meets the body of the LED at the top.

The other lead will fit along the trench at the top of the retainer.

Make a 90 degree downward bend in this lead ~2mm after the edge of the retainer.

The lead should sit vertically to enable contact with the screw in the riser.

Test the LED against the battery negative side to the retainer and the long lead contacting the side of the battery.

If the LED does not illuminate double check the LED and battery polarities are correct.

Insert the battery, positive side facing down. Although, the battery compartment is keyed to enable correct insertion.

Sit the retainer over the battery and trim off the excess on the long (anode), lead from the LED that extends beneath the subplatform, ensuring it does not foul on the hinge.

4: Base Assembly

Fit the midring with the slot facing the hinge and the magnet at the front.

The midring is held in place with 2 x M2.5 x 6 mm screws.

Sit the platform mechanism into the centre of the base and fit 2 x M2.5 x 8 mm screws to the screw holes nearest the hinge.

The LED/battery retainer is held in place with 2 x M2.5 x 12 mm screws.

Test the mechanism to ensure that the screw on the riser contacts the lead on the LED and that is presses the lead against the side of the battery.

Adjustment of the retainer, battery and/or lead may be required to ensure consistent contact.

5: Hinge

Fit the hinge lever arms into the base hinge with the short flat edge of the level facing downward with the last hole aligned with the hole in the hinge.

Ensure hole alignment by passing  a 1.5(dia) mm screwdriver blade through the hinge.

Adjust as required to ensure the alignment.

Pass a length of cleaner filament through the hinge hole and trim off the excess.

Align the top of the hinge with the levers.

Pass a length of cleaner filament through the hinge hole and trim off the excess.

Align the top hole of lever2 with the farthest hole of the internal hinge of the bauble upper hemisphere.

Use a flexible wire to ensure alignement prior to final fixing.

Remove the wire and with long nose pliers carefully insert a length of cleaner filament all the way through the hinge.

Trim off the excess.

Adjustment of the retainer, battery and/or lead may be required to ensure consistent contact.

6: Operation

With the bauble open the LED should illuminate and when the bauble is shut the LED should be off.

The extreme top of the bauble has a mounting hole through which a mono filament may be passed to enable the bauble to hang on a hook.

The two magnets at the front between the top and base will hold the hemispheres shut when handing from a tree or hook.

The base of the bauble has an integrated stand to enable it to be freestanding on a stable flat surface if required.

The riser is notched at the top to allow a decorative element or small gift to be attached by hook or crook.
