Glissonardo – From Leonardo’s Idea to a New Instrument
https://youtube.com/shorts/NSQ5zJAe3m4?si=dutGs6VnRXYoO4sk
Glissonardo is inspired by Leonardo da Vinci’s Codex Atlanticus, where sketches of so-called fissura flutes show an early idea of controlling pitch through a continuous opening rather than fixed finger holes.
This model explores that idea in a modern, 3D-printed form.
Printing recommendations
Print with the whistle head on the build plate
No supports needed, brim only
Tested with 15% grid infill and 2 wall loops
On printers with a moving bed (such as Prusa MINI+ or MK4S), make sure the plane of the slot is parallel to the rail to avoid breaking during printing
How to play
Cover the slot with your closed hand, then slowly open it starting from the pinky finger, followed by the ring, middle, and index finger. With practice, you should be able to play a full octave while exploring smooth pitch transitions and glissandi.
Glissonardo is part of a broader exploration of continuous, voice-like pitch control developed by instrument inventor and saxophonist Dániel Váczi. This idea later evolved into Glissopipe — a refined, intuitive acoustic instrument designed for beginners, musicians, educators, and families.
