This year, we have a door-decoration contest at work. No rules except that it should be inspired by a Christmas movie.  I was just going to slap an X of duct tape and call it done (name THAT movie), but instead.... drumroll...

In OnShape, I 3d modeled the house in way too much detail, based on as many reference images/movie screenshots I could find.  The model is really large. I initially planned to print it in 4 parts and attach them together, but I kinda' ran short on time so just scaled it down to 65%.

After hand-painting it (no judgment on my painting skills), I bought a string of lights, measured the exact bulb diameter with calipers, and found a drill bit to match. Then (with more than a little fear), I boldly drilled about 150 holes in my freshly-painted model.  Honestly, it's probably too many holes, and I also didn't plan enough space INSIDE the house for the bulb-plugs to not run into each other, particularly at the corners of the house, where two walls come together and the plugs sit at 90 degrees.  Some of the holes essentially need the plugs to occupy the same physical space.  It's tight.  I'd say just drill with caution and pay attention to that.  I'm not re-printing & painting the whole thing, just to get it perfect, but wanted to go ahead and post the model, so you all could have time to print and enjoy it yourself! Just drill judiciously.

My printer has a build plate of 225x225 so, as I mentioned, I printed the house at 65% size to fit.  I printed it upright, in PLA, with print temp of 240 (highest I have ever used, but I was having layer adhesion issues) and normal supports everywhere (Cura Slicer).  (Also remember if you print the wreath and light box/bracket, to scale them to the SAME percentage!)

Once I started putting in the lights, I realized that some of the holes hadn't been drilled quite perfectly, so the bulbs were loose, so I started hot-gluing some of them if they were easy to snap into place.  If you do this, just start with the holes that are the hardest to access and work your way around the inside of the model.
