I needed a filament holder/roller to use in a couple of projects I had going. I wanted a model that I could easily reuse without having to re-integrate each time I made a change to it. As you will note I've taken inspiration from other models but none of them were the right fit for my needs.
As you can see in the photos I'm using this as a pair of rollers in a DryBox project as well as in a remix of a top mounted spool holder for printing TPU.
This component is attached to other models using 2 pins and 2 magnets. The dimensioned sketch is included.
Hardware:
2 x 608 bearings (22x7x8)
1 M3 screw inset
1 M3 Hex socket head screw 6mm
2 x 6x2mm magnets
All bodies are designed to be printed vertically with NO supports. I've added geometry to the holes to allow non supported slicing. You might think I should print the spindles horizontally for strength but there is no need as the bearings absorb all stress caused by rotation of the roller.
I recommend that the roller be printed with fuzzy skin for better grip.
Endcap and Holder printed in PETG and the roller in PLA.
