Christmas Tree Water Siphon - 3/8" Tube Holder

Use this to hold 3/8" Vinyl Tubing in place in your christmas tree stand (double-check the width of the stand first to make sure it will fit).  This will keep the tree watered for several days at a time.

I built this siphon system with the following parts:

• 6.5 QT Storage Container

• 1/4 in. Barb x 3/8 in. MIP Brass Adapter Fitting

• 1/4 in. I.D. x 3/8 in. O.D. x 10 ft. Clear Vinyl Tubing

• Silicone Caulk

To Construct:

1. Drill a hole in the storage container.  Be careful, they crack easily.  Use small drill bit first and go slowly.  Use a 3/8" drill bit to finish the hole.

2. Thread the fitting into the 3/8" hole.

3. Apply generous silicone caulk to both sides of the container around the fitting and let it fully dry.

4. Attach the hose to the storage container, put the other end of the hose into this holder, and put it into the christmas tree stand.

To Fill:

1. Measure the height above the floor of the top of the christmas tree stand.

2. Mark this same height on the storage container.  Do not fill above this level or the stand will overflow.  If the storage container is sitting on something, make sure to include that in the height.  After the siphon is started, the water levels will equalize to the same level (relative to the floor).

3. Fill water into the container.

4. Lift up the storage container to start water flowing down the tube, and wait until the tube is filled with water, and there is enough water in the stand to cover the bottom of the tube (i.e. the tube opening in the bottom of the tree stand)

5. Lower the storage container, and wait for the water levels to equalize

6. Maintain water level in the storage container periodically.
