This is a fully customizable Bee Hive Clock! The beauty of it is you can use whatever hex types you want to have the layout any way you please! Don't like the brown capped sections? Don't use them! Want some purple or blue cells? Go for it! Be sure to upload them as makes though, I love to see what other people come up with.
Its final dimensions end up being around 270mm tall and 310mm wide.
There are numerous different Hex Types that I made that allow you to customize this however you want. These Hex pieces are secured to the clock face with super glue/CA glue.
The base of it prints in 5 pieces and secures together with eight m3x12 bolts.
I printed all of these parts with an AMS system, but they are all printable without an AMS except for the bees. They all have a separate non-AMS file where the different colors are on different layer heights. The filament change information is noted below.
Support is only required for printing the four outer face sections.
If anyone wants to remix some different hex types, go ahead! The dimensions are as follows:
Circumscribed Hexagon with a 27.5mm diameter. (Corner to corner is 27.5mm, not side to side).
The depth of the cells are 4mm, but you could probably get away with up to 6mm hex height before you start interfering with the hour hand.
Materials Required:
8x m3x12 Socket Head Bolts (I used these)
8x m3 Nuts (From the same pack above)
1x Clock Mechanism with 22mm Shaft Length (I used the longer one from here)
CA Glue or Super Glue (I used this)
Filament Used:
For the honey comb color: eSUN PLA+ (Dark Yellow)
For the brighter yellow on the bees: eSUN PLA+ (Yellow)
For the black parts: eSUN PLA+ (Black)
For the parts: eSUN PLA+ (Cold White)
For the brown parts: eSUN PLA+ (Brown)
Assembly Notes:
insert m3 nuts into the eight hexagonal holes in the back of the center base piece. Ensure they are inserted flush.
Connect the four outer face pieces to the center section by placing them over their tabs.
Using m3x12 bolts, secure the 4 outer pieces to the center piece. Ensuring these bolts are tightened correctly helps to prevent noticeable gaps between the pieces.
Insert the clock mechanism and fasten it to the face,
place the Mid Hex over the clock shaft. This piece may need glue if your printer's tolerances are off. If so, ensure you do not get glue into the clock mechanism.
Glue the clock numbers in their correct position. The 12 o'clock position should be inline with the clock mechanism's hanger and should be on a flat side of the face's hexagon.
Glue other hexagons in whatever positions you desire. Using x8 of the FlatHexShort pieces is good for covering the visible heads of the bolts.
Upload your make and enjoy the clock!
Notes For Non-AMS Filament/Color Changes:
When doing filament changes, always change in the layer after the higher number of the range listed below.
For Example, if you are using a layer height of 0.2, in most slicers if you want 0 - 2mm to be Black and then the layers after that to be Orange, you would add a pause at layer 10 (which is technically after that layer) and then change your filament to Orange and the rest would be that color.
For Bee Hex:
0 - 2mm (Dark Yellow)
2 - 2.8mm (Yellow)
2.8 - 3.4mm (White)
3.4 - 4mm (Black)
For Bee (Non-Hex):
0 - 0.8mm (Yellow)
0.8 - 1.4mm (White)
1.4 - 2mm (Black)
For Bee Large (Non-Hex):
0 - 0.8mm (Yellow)
0.8 - 1.4mm (White)
1.4 - 2mm (Black)
For Hive Clock Numbers:
0 - 3mm (Dark Yellow or Brown)
3 - 4.6mm (Black or White)
For Larva Hex:
0 - 2mm (Brown)
2 - 4mm (White)
For Hole Hex:
0 - 2mm (Dark Yellow)
2 - 4mm (Brown)
