I needed a better way to keep track of which spools of filament i was using in my printers. I often have multiple spools of the same material and color open, so it was too easy to get things mixed up in Spoolman and track usage on the wrong spool when i changed them.
I write the link to the specific filament spool in Spoolman on a Ø25mm RFID tag (i use N215 cardboard tags with adhesive) that fits in the recession on the clip. The tags are re-writable so i can reuse them for other materials when a spool is done. I can scan them when i change spools and update active spool accordingly for each printer. I do this manually, but it could automated.
This clip fits Ø1.75mm filament, I've tested it on a variety of different spools (polymaker, bambu, sunlu and a few other), both cardboard and plastic with thicknesses of ~3-4.5mm, and it clips on and off well. Each clip uses a little less than 3g of filament.
