Have you ever look at your tissues or papers for print sheet cleaning and wondered if you could turn them into a cool Prusamnet spool? In that case this model is just for you!
What is Prusamnet PβDG?
Prusamnet PβDG (Polyβ-D-Glucose or PolyCellulose) is a revolutionary design of paper used specifically for print sheet cleaning and spools with a smaller diameter to fit any paper roll. Made from recyclable PLA using official Prusament spools as a reference, this spool is printable on any printer with a print size of at least 200*200mm (XY).
How to print this?
Well, it depends on the files you opened. The aviable formats are: .f3d (if you want to make a custom diameter for the paper roll), .stl (for using a different printer than a MK4), .3mf (for tweaking some print settings) and .bgcode (for printing right away).
Option 1: .f3d
If you don't have Autodesk Fusion installed yet, you can download it for free here.
After it has installed, open the file and select Autodesk Fusion 360.
Find Sketch1 in the timeline at the bottom (should be the very 1st one), right click on it and select Edit Sketch.
Then find a circle with a diameter of 48.25 milimeters and double click on the number.
Use a caliper to measure the inner diameter of your paper roll and subtract 0.75 milimeters from it.
Write the result into the window that popped up and tap Enter.
Click Finish Sketch and Fusion will automaticlly calculate everything else that's needed.
Click on the file icon and export the file as .stl or .3mf.
Now see Option 2 for further instrctions.
Option 2: .stl
Open PrusaSlicer or download it from the official Prusa website.
Split the spool into Parts.
Skip this and the next step if you don't have a multicolor printer (that can print with multiple colors in the same layer).
Go to the Printers tab and change these settings:
Extruders: 1 to 2
G-code for toolhead change: blank to:
M600
G1 E0.3 F1500 ; prime after color changeGo back to your build plate and set the spool itself to color 2.
Slice your model and make sure that the text prints first. Then upload it to your printer and load a white spool of filament first.
The printer might pull it out, but just put it back in.
After the text and the QR code were printed, change the color to black and the printer will continue on printing.
Recomennded print settings:
Layer height: 0.20 mm
Perimeters: 3
Infill: cubic adaptive
Other ways to print it:
You can also print it straight through the .3mf files or even with .bgcode files, but that will only work with the MK4 printer without the MMU. But if you have one, you don't have to change all the settings yourself, instead you can easily print right away.
What does the Prusamnet spool feature?
A cool Prusa Research logo, referencing to the spools I was inspired by
An authentic-looking filament information
A QR code leading to the song Never Gonna Give You Up by Rick Astley
A link leading to the same YouTube video as the QR code
So you've been warned :-)
(I actually decided to put the QR code and the link because some people don't read the description)
Cool Prusamnet spool stand:
There's a cool stand included so your Prusamnet spool doesn't just lie on the table. Included in the same formats! To change the size (125 mm by default), use the same steps as for the spool, but this time search for Extrude3 and make sure to only change the 1st number.
Cool Prusamnet spool holder:
There's a cool holder included so your Prusamnet spool doesn't just lie on the table when unused. Included in the same formats! It's designed to fit the IKEA SKÅDIS connectors. To print it, open the file in a slicer, split it into objects and add supports.
Note regarding the custom G-code:
The Custom G-code with the M600 command is the exact one used by PrusaSlicer 2.9.2 on Original Prusa MK4 printers. You can use it freely if you have a Prusa MK3 with a firmware version 3.14.1 or newer or a newer printer by Prusa Research. For any other printers/brands use only at your own risk.
