The previous amber filter we had to visualise the DNA gels got really crusty. We assumed that the erosion of the filter is due to cleaning chemicals like dismozon or Bacillol (damn you interns). So, the blue light filter now is abolutely uselss for any kind of quantification. Invitrogen would not give a good price quotation for the said filter, so I took matter into my own hands.
Turns out stage lighting filters are awfully close to the filter characteristics I needed. LEE filter (by Panavision) - (https://leefilters.com/) have quite a wide rande of filters for this purpose. For imaging with SYBR safe DNA gel stains, my personal suggestion is to use two layers of no. 105 LEE filters. Works perfectly. Just requires M2 screws (4mm) to hold the filters and the filter cover in place and 10x2 mm magnets to be stuck on the wells for placement.
P.S. So, I had a very rudimentary printer (anycubic Kobra 2) and the screw holes were not very pronounced so, I took a crafting knife to dig holes into the Filter frame, where the screw holes must have been.
Additional things:
1. M2 screws (4mm)
2. Glue to fix the magnets
3. Filter papers of choice - LEE filters (eg., 105-orange)
