I designed these spool sides to rework the Syntech plastic spools to ensure compatibility with AMS and CFS systems. The spool sides are designed with designated slots for RFID tags, each with a diameter of 25 mm. Additionnaly, there are metering points, so you can estimate spool remainder (big one is approx. 500g left, each tick is 100g).
Currently, I have a large number of Syntech carton spools, and their carton sides tend to bend when less plastic remains on the spool. This bending can lead to unreliable operation within my CFS system. And i am too lazy to transfer them to another spool.
While AMS compatibility has not yet been verified, I believe the spools should fit properly.
The original spool features an inlet with an inner diameter of 55 mm and is equipped with two glued outer carton “wheels.”
To install, you should carefully remove the outer carton wheels from the spool and replace them with printed ones (they are tight press fit, no glue required). Please be cautious during this process to avoid disturbing the spool winding, as too much misalignment can cause issues when fitting—specifically, the width of winding may become too wide.
You need two parts to rework one spool. Weight of the spool becomes 70g lighter (ABS, est. 70g together with carton inlet.)
Printed with petg and abs, with 0.3mm layer height, although anything should workfine
