The Mil Mi-12 (NATO reporting name: Homer) was the largest helicopter ever built. Developed in the Soviet Union during the 1960s, it was designed to transport extremely heavy loads, such as ballistic missiles and large military equipment, to remote areas.

The Mi-12 used an unusual design with two massive rotors mounted on wing-like structures, powered by four turbo-shaft engines. It could lift over 40 tons, setting multiple world records that still stand today. Despite its impressive capabilities, only two prototypes were built, and the project was eventually canceled due to high costs and limited practical demand.

Printing Info

There are two versions you can print, one and without a sprue. Since the rotors are quite big, you have to print them seperatly. If you have problems with the rotating rotors or you dont like it, there is also a fixed version under “seperate”. You can also print all parts seperatly. Happy printing!

Building Info

Since this kit is a bit more complicated than my other models, here a few tips:

  1. Start by building the fuselage with wings, gear, elevators and horizontal stabilizers. The model is not balanced at this point!

  1. Build the two wingtips, containing of wingtip, engines, narcelle and wingtip holder.

  1. Add the rotors. It works best by pressing it together upside down. When you print the not-fixed version, the rotor might be stuck initially. Attach it to the fuselage and then wiggle carefully back and forth till its loose. Make shure to not confuse the rotors: The blades are supposed go to the front inbetween the engines.

  1. Attach the wingtips to the wings and the model is complete. Note: The rotors are supposed to overlap a bit in the middle. The real version had a gearbox and connected shafts so the rotors don't collide.
