Got tired of fidgeting with a paper funnel each time I need to make a fruit fly trap.

This funnel is sized to an IKEA Godis glass with about 1 cm of vinegar in the bottom.
But I've included the FreeCAD source file, so you can easily change the depth and diameter to suit.
The FreeCAD file has a Varset. You can plug in your glass's dimensions (height, width, and base thickness) and the model will adjust to give you a good fit.

My slicer says the taller funnel is about a 3 hour print at .12mm. Switching to .16mm drops it to about 2 hours 20 minutes. The small one says 1 hour and 45 minutes.

Fruit Fly Trap Instructions

  1. Put a small amount of apple cider vinegar in the bottom of a glass

  2. Add a drop of dish soap to break surface tension

  3. Add a funnel (traditionally a paper cone) that will guide fruit flies down toward the surface but make it hard for them to get back out.

  4. Put this out where the fruit flies are. Put away anything else they might be attracted to.

Print Notes

  • I didn't know to set the seam to random instead of aligned in the slicer. I'll do this next time I print one to avoid a visible line down the cone where the print head reverses direction.

  • I used PLA filament. If you want to wash this regularly, maybe something else is better?

  • I learned about Varsets in FreeCAD from this youtube video
