Most pen mods require a bunch of fancy parts from other writing utensils along with complex assembly. But 3D-printed mods are usually not great to spin.
This mod is unique in that it is printed in three parts, the hollow body and two caps. Printing the caps separately was necessary so that the PILOT G2 grips could slide in easier. I haven't seen any 3D models of mods that incorporate rubber grips, so this makes it a lot better. The grips are flush with the barrel which is a nice visual, in my opinion.
Diameter 11 mm, 24 cm long
Advice (feel free to experiment as it is a short/easy print):
Print caps at 100% so that they are heavier. Try thin layers to smooth it out (not sure if that will work but doesn't affect performance either way). I used a 10 mm brim because it was round at the bottom: not sure if that was necessary though.
I printed the middle part at 15% and flat with a 10 mm brim, then sanded the bottom down so it would be rounder. I would be curious about a vertical print with a brim for support.
Be ready to sand the insert of the cap for 5 minutes or so, especially if the printer is not exact. It was very hard to get the bottom inch of the cap into the barrel.
To easily get PILOT G2 grips off, work a flat screwdriver or Swiss Army knife under the grip and stretch out the rubber evenly. Still takes some effort after that though.
Print grips at the same time, or even all three if you are daring :)
EDIT: I actually prefer caps at 30% infill. The grips provide plenty of weight. I also altered the grip so that the ends are flat, which is not represented in the picture. It prints better and looks nicer. Print all parts flat so that they are stronger, or else they may break quicker than expected.
UPDATE: After trying a traditionally-made mod, I can say that this mod holds up pretty well. It spins like a brick compared to an ST IEV3 or whatever, but it's still workable and spins a trillion times better than a pencil with grips on the end. Really good mod for beginners who want to try out the hobby. However, for those trying to do the really difficult tricks, a traditional mod may be the way to go.
